Adra
This town is situated on the Mediterranean shore, in a fertile plain surrounded by the Calar and Contraviesa Sierras. Adra is a town which has clean, white streets and many squares adorned with beautiful gardens such as the Plaza de Andalucía ("Andalusia Square") in the higher area or that of San Nicolás next to the promenade with the Cañón fountain, or that of San Sebastián. The plaza del Mar ("Sea Square") is the geographic and administrative centre of the town and the Town Hall is here. Almost next door, in the calle Iglesia ("Church Street") is the parochial church of the Immaculate Conception. The torre de los Perdigones ("Partridge Tower"), symbol of the town and testimony to Saint Andrew's great lead foundation, rises up at the end of the paseo Natalio Rivas ("Natalio Rivas avenue").

Adra is both a shipping and seaside town which boasts magnificent beaches on which to holiday. Poniente beach possesses the European Community blue flag for unpolluted beaches and Levante beach has a new promenade. The paseo de Natalio Rivas divides it into two asymmetrical parts: one part looks towards the sea where the port is and where one can daily contemplate the picturesque sight of the fishermens' arrival and the auction of fish.

Gastronomy

Gastronomy based basically on products of the sea, as much seafood as fished, also accepts products of inland. Traditional plates are tascaburras, with dry codfish and peppers; the vermicelli separate, a small boiler of fish to which fried vermicelli are added to him; gachas colorás, done with flour and pimentón, and the fresh pot, a spanish stew with potatoes and chick-peas with products of the slaughter of the pig: blood sausage, espinazo, bacon, etc.
