BORNOS RESERVOIR
The basic interest of this route is that it allows one to observe a great number of aquatic birds. The majority of the lagoons and humid zones are easily accessible and have a fixed and permanent character. Beginning in the Fuente de Piedra lagoon, the largest of the Andalusian salt water lagoons and an important nesting place for the flamingo. Besides this, one can observe the gull-billed tern and the slender-billed gull that also nest, and the shelduck, the red-crested pochard and other kinds of anatidae.
The next humid zone is the Campillos lagoon complex, formed by a series of temporary lagoons with many aquatic species. From here one arrives to the tail of the Bornos reservoir with an impressive formation of thicket, where a colony inhabits in which it is easy to observe the grey and purple heron, the cattle egret, the little egret and the night heron; in winter it is not difficult to see the osprey.
