MARSHES OF DOÑANA |
On the coast of Huelva one finds interesting sandy, coastal formations alternating with
marshlands and humidity of every type. The marshes formed at the mouths of
the rivers present distinct characteristics. In all cases there are strong
horizontal sceneries and with a high vegetative production due to the
existence of water, light, and nutrients in optimum quantities, that permit the
maintainence of large populations of birds, and the whole of these humid zones is
the most important enclave for European and African migratory birds.
|
|
The route begins in Isla Canela in the marshes of Guadiana and of Carreras with
different, saline environments. Next the marsh of the Piedras river appears and
also El Rompido with typical vegetation of sandy areas which
changes gradually to adapt to the salinity of these marshes.
This scheme of the mouth of the river with its marshes surrounded by an
area of sand that runs parallel to the coast is repeated up to the mouth of the Guadalquivir River.

DOÑANA NATIONAL PARK |
 COOT |
The jetty of Huelva is an artificial formation from which one can view
the coastal dynamics and observe marine birds. From here, along the
highway from Mazagon
to Torre de la Higuera, a spectacular scene of a cliff of sandstone covered by dunes appears
that has remained separate from the beach.
Continuing up until El Rocio one finds two information centers of
the Doñana National Park, The Acebuche and The Acebron, which offer insight to the distinct ecosystem; In the Acebron
one can take a walk through a forest in a gallery bordered by cork
trees.
