DEER |
These zones, the same as all of Sierra Morena, are characterized more for their
marked relief than the height. In this case we move through relatively unpopulated
areas. The major part is dedicated to reforestation with pines and eucalyptuses,
stock farms of holm and cork oak, pasturelands and hunting preserves.
The first plot until Las Navas passes through the Hornachuelos mountains with the
river Bemb&eaacute;zar and other streams and dams such as those of Bembézar and of
Retortillo with rich riverside vegetation, willows and ashtrees.
The woods, sometimes
of great density are formed by holm oaks, cork trees, gall oaks and pines. The deer and wild boars
abound, together with other species of threatened mammals such as the lynx.
Its bird fauna is equally rich, emphasizing the royal and imperial eagles and
three different types of vultures.
|
|
From Las Navas the scenery is formed by extraordinary holm and cork oak meadows
that constitute the Sierra Norte Nature Park. Some enclaves are worthy of mention
such as the birth of the Ribera del Huéznar river in San Nicolás Pass,
that develops along from its riverbed in a forest and the ancient mineral
explotation of Cerro del Hierro.
