WHITE TOWNS ROUTE |
 |
PROVINCE OF CADIZ
|
|

MAP OF THE WHITE TOWNS |
The white towns are situated to the north of the province of Cadiz and to the
northeast of the province of Malaga. Their extension coincides almost entirely
with the Grazalema Natural Park. This denomination - White Towns
("Pueblos Blancos") - derives from the dazzling
whitewashed walls which are common to all the villages.
The whole of this area has been settled since prehistoric times. Many cultures
have left their mark here: Iberians, Celts, Romans, Visigoths, and the most
influential of all on the area, that of the Arabs. The Muslim domination of the
area is easily recalled in the narrow winding streets with sharp rises,
showing off fantastic corners each step of the way.
|
|
The simplicity and happiness of the Andalusian people did the rest, making
a magnificent combination. It is a pleasure for the senses to walk among
windows and balconies filled with flowers and contrasting with the bright
white walls. A mild climate which keeps the surrounding landscape green serves
as the perfect background. More than 25 villages make up the area.

VIEW OF THE WHITE TOWNS |

CAVE IN THE WHITE TOWNS |
The White Towns area offers many opportunities to practice a wide variety of
free-time activities: Hunting, scaling and rock-climbing, hiking and potholing,
hang-gliding and para-gliding, horse-riding, mountain biking and abseiling,
as well as simply observing animals. This is, above all, an area for fonds of
nature and simple things.
To organize the trip, it has been divided into four routes, depending on the
geographical location.
